Perspectives on the economy

in the wake of COVID-19
Carl Tannenbaum will discuss the current global economic conditions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and what the recovery process is expected to look like in the years to come. While the impact among countries has varied, several common trends have emerged, indicating the worst of the downturn is behind us. With that glimmer of hope has come a sobering reminder of how severe the downturn has been.

Employment and economic activity remain deeply depressed. Sluggish external sectors will be a challenge for all economies. The recovery will not occur as rapidly as the contraction did, and a resurgence of the virus may derail progress. Policymakers must be ready to pass more initiatives to support the nascent recovery. Carl Tannenbaum addresses ways in which the Canadian economy can remain resilient and reemerge as a global leader.
