Quantifying the Effects of ESG Factors:
Challenges and Opportunities
Environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors are increasingly important in defining institutional portfolios. However, once ESG factors have been incorporated into investment decision-making, it can be difficult to paint a clear picture of their impact.
A significant amount of academic evidence indicates that integrating ESG factors has a favourable long-term impact on corporate performance as measured by accounting, risk and return metrics. That said, gauging and interpreting their influence remains a challenge.
The presentation will explore this challenge, and consider current methods for rating and ranking ESG criteria. We'll also show how active engagement with corporate leadership teams by investment managers can help add value in portfolios, and similarly how sustainable investing can help reduce risk.
