Introducing the ACPM Pension Academy
Registration Now Open: Inside the Pension Boardroom
ACPM is pleased to launch the Pension Academy, a new professional education initiative designed to strengthen the effectiveness of pension trustees and directors across Canada.
The Academy's inaugural program, Inside the Pension Boardroom, is a one-day, instructor-led course that equips pension trustees and directors with the knowledge, perspective and confidence needed to contribute effectively at the board table.
Designed for trustees and directors seeking to strengthen their governance knowledge and board effectiveness, the program provides practical governance education focused on the real-world responsibilities of pension board oversight.
Participants will learn to:
- Understand how pension boards operate and make decisions
- Interpret actuarial valuations and funding implications
- Evaluate investment performance and oversee investment managers
- Exercise fiduciary duties and governance responsibilities effectively
- Strengthen risk oversight and scenario-based decision-making
- Contribute confidently and constructively to board deliberations
Grounded in practical examples and real-world pension scenarios, the program helps participants strengthen their understanding of how pension boards operate, make decisions and fulfill their responsibilities.
Participants gain insight into a typical pension board agenda cycle - from funding decisions and investment oversight to risk management and governance - and leave better prepared to ask informed questions, interpret complex materials and contribute confidently to board discussions.
The program is highly interactive, incorporating facilitated discussion, practical examples and case studies drawn from real pension environments.
