Introducing the ACPM Pension Academy

Registration Now Open: Inside the Pension Boardroom

ACPM is pleased to launch the Pension Academy, a new professional education initiative designed to strengthen the effectiveness of pension trustees and directors across Canada.

The Academy’s inaugural program, Inside the Pension Boardroom, is a one-day, instructor-led course that equips pension trustees and directors with the knowledge and confidence needed to contribute effectively at the board table.

Designed for trustees and directors in their first three years of service, the program provides practical governance knowledge that builds role clarity, oversight capability, and technical fluency.

Grounded in insights from the 2025 ACPM Pension Trustee Survey, the curriculum responds directly to trustee-identified needs for:

  • A clearer understanding of fiduciary duties and the board’s oversight role
  • Greater fluency in actuarial valuations, funding policies, and key assumptions
  • Stronger confidence in investment oversight and risk governance
  • Practical, in-person learning based on real-world pension board scenarios

Participants gain insight into a typical pension board agenda cycle — from funding decisions to investment monitoring and risk oversight — and leave better prepared to ask informed questions, interpret complex materials, and discharge their governance responsibilities with confidence.

The program is highly interactive, incorporating short case discussions drawn from real pension environments.
