It’s the digital age, but not in the pension world, where many communications and forms remain paper-based. Recent amendments to Ontario’s Pension Benefits Act are intended to facilitate electronic communications with pension plan members.
This session will explain the requirements of the new rules, how they can be used in both defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans and their limitations. Will they prove to be a path to reducing paper usage or are they too cumbersome or costly for all but the biggest plans? Will electronic communication be able to help administrators manage missing members, former members and retirees? What are the other considerations when moving a pension plan into the electronic age?
