Webinar (April 2019)

Life Cycle Investing

for Retirement

This presentation will discuss the academic theory of lifecycle finance, as first referenced by Robert C. Merton, Zvi Bodie, and Paul Samuelson (1992) and how it relates to saving and investing across one's lifecycle. The presentation will reference and build on the ideas from "The Future of Life Cycle Saving and Investing" sponsored by Boston University, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Research Foundation of the CFA Institute.

Topics to be discussed include: elements and principles of life cycle investing and its practical application including key design principles for DC plans focused on delivering better retirement outcomes for Canadians. Finally the session will include a discussion of whether DC plans in Canada align with these principles and what changes can be made to incorporate these concepts for the benefit of Canadians and their employers.
