Exclusive Lunch with Jack Mintz

Wednesday, June 9, 2010
11:30 am - 1:00pm
Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire

The retirement income system in Canada is under intense scrutiny.
  • Should governments make radical changes?
  • Which reform ideas in circulation hold the most promise?
  • Which ideas risk greater costs than benefits?
In the last year and half, there has been unprecedented political interest in the issue of pension adequacy/coverage for Canadians.  And, our June 9th exclusive lunch session with Jack Mintz will be a few days ahead of the second Finance Minister meeting in the last six months where potentially radical reforms are on the agenda.  Proposed options by expert panels across the country include expanding the CPP, various forms of government-sponsored DC plans, and amending pension and tax laws to enable increased coverage under private arrangements

Professor Jack Mintz, Director and Palmer Chair in Public Policy of The School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary will address these and other related topics. Professor Mintz is a leading thinker, researcher and commentator on Canada's retirement income system.

In addition to his work with The School of Public Policy, Professor Mintz was the research director for the Federal-Provincial Ministers of Finance Research Working Group examining the adequacy of retirement income in Canada.
